Frequently Asked Questions

Why were the academies created?

Freedom Preparatory Academy was founded on the principle of college preparation and life-long learning. In order to better prepare our students for college, we have created these academies to provide our students the essential skills and critical experience they need to succeed in college and their careers. Our academies create a focus and a path for our students to follow and find their passion for continued learning throughout their life.

Does my student have to choose an academy?

All students at Freedom Preparatory Academy are encouraged to be a part of one of the 5 academies. Each academy offers a set of related classes that build on the skills  and experience gained from the previous year’s course offerings. When a student is able to focus on a career path they are more likely to be engaged in school, raise their performance and be much more prepared for college and their careers.

My student is interested in a career that is not listed under one of the academies that you offer. What are our options?

In order to raise the academic standard at Freedom Preparatory Academy, we have chosen to focus on these 5 academies. Many careers are related either directly or indirectly to the course offered at our school. If graphic design or sewing is not a career choice, the problem solving and critical thinking required in those courses translates to almost any field.

What is a CTE Pathway?

Career and Technical Education (CTE) has a variety of pathways that lead to specific careers. At Freedom Preparatory Academy, we offer 6 CTE pathway credits for our students. Each pathway has 3.0 credit hours of courses focused on providing students with skills and experience in a specific career. The first classes are introductory and give students a foundation of knowledge. The next classes build on each other to give students skills and experience. The final course is either a capstone or internship working on real-world problems.

What is a CTE completer?

A CTE completer is a student that completes all courses in a CTE pathway (generally 4-6 courses). These students are recognized at graduation and are more prepared for college and their careers because of the experience and skills that they have acquired in high school.
